The driver will be hauling dedicated Andersen freight and delivering our windows and doors to our dealers and picking up raw materials to return to the Midwest. This position requires a wide range of skills from practicing safe driving and delivery to top-notch customer service: Monday – Friday workdays. Home every weekend! Opportunity for weekend work (volunteer only, as business requires) Regional delivery routes available with potential for overnights in certain markets. Requirements

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License and doubles endorsement if twin trailers are pulled at location.
  • Have an acceptable accident and moving violation Motor Vehicle Record.
  • 2 years’ previous tractor-trailer driving experience, including winter driving experience (and chaining where applicable).
  • Ability to read, write and perform simple mathematical calculations with general mental ability to handle receipts, read maps, read road signs, maintain logs, etc.
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and navigate on board computer technology to receive important messaging.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of tractor safety and control systems
  • Knowledge of D.O.T. regulations which govern safe driving, hours of service, vehicle inspection and maintenance.
  • Meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • Pass DOT pre-employment screening, inclusive of a drug test.
  • Ability to sit and remain alert while driving for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate tractor safely.
  • Able to hook/unhook various commercial vehicle combinations, manually lower and raise landing gear, operate the fifth wheel lever, lock and release pintle-hooks, attach and release safety chains, open and close cargo doors, climb into and off vehicles, fuel vehicles and check engine oil coolant levels.
  • Ability to perform frequent squatting or crouching to handle position and secure windows and doors.
  • Able to perform occasional pushing or pulling of windows and doors weighing up to 100 pounds on a dolly or cart.
  • Able to occasionally carry windows and doors weighing up to 50 pounds of varying size and shape and occasionally carry windows and doors weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Able to occasionally reach cargo above shoulder level, at waist level and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the controls to operate the truck.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with, and abide by, all Federal DOT Regulations while driving company vehicles.
  • Maintain safe and defensive driving behavior, especially when maneuvering in tight, congested areas or when faced with inclement weather.
  • Maintain proper record-keeping to comply with state and federal regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, driver logs, fuel purchases, mileage records, and other records required by state or federal law.
  • Familiarize and adhere to all company policies related to employment (DOT and non-DOT policy).
  • Represent Andersen with professional attitude, appearance and product knowledge
  • Safely assist in the loading and unloading our product at customer’s location.
  • Perform occasional lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying of windows and doors and ability to use provided material moving equipment for items over 100lbs.
  • Be able to answer questions regarding packing lists, invoices, packaging and material content. If unable to answer specific questions, direct customer to appropriate contact at Andersen.
