About The Position

This role serves as an interim Director of Health Services or Assistant Director of Health Services, providing essential leadership and clinical operations support during vacancies or transitions. The consultant will lead day-to-day clinical operations, including staffing, care delivery, and workflow, while maintaining clinical leadership responsibilities within the Electronic Health Record (PointClickCare). The position requires providing onsite direction, coaching, and decision-making in alignment with WesleyLife's expectations, policies, and standards of practice. Additionally, the role involves ensuring clinical documentation accurately reflects resident conditions, evaluating documentation practices, and educating team members on required documentation, care planning, and clinical expectations. Support for admissions processes, care plan development, and care transitions is also a key function. The consultant will conduct audits and assessments to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and WesleyLife standards, identify areas for improvement, and collaborate on action plans. Reporting findings, risks, and recommendations to local leaders and the Network Support Center is expected, along with participation in annual survey processes and regulatory visits.

Requirements

  • Must hold an active, unencumbered Iowa RN license.
  • Minimum of two years of leadership-level experience in geriatric nursing or long‑term care.
  • Expert knowledge of State and Federal regulations, clinical standards of practice, CMS/DIA requirements, quality assurance systems, and person‑directed care models.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical practices relevant to long-term care and/or skilled stay.
  • High professionalism, integrity, and the ability to maintain confidentiality of residents, team, and business information.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and operational leaders at all levels.
  • Strong communication, relationship‑building, and coaching skills.
  • High flexibility and adaptability due to the provisional nature of the role, with the ability to lead through influence rather than authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and support change across diverse teams and environments.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with clinical leadership, operational leadership, and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support day‑to‑day clinical operations, including staffing oversight, care delivery, and workflow support.
  • Maintain clinical leadership responsibilities within the Electronic Health Record (PointClickCare).

  • Ensure clinical documentation accurately reflects residents’ conditions, care needs, and services provided.
  • Evaluate documentation practices and support nursing team members in consistently maintaining high‑quality, compliant records.
  • Provide education and instruction to team members regarding required documentation, nurse notes, care planning processes, and clinical expectations.
  • Provide education and support related to admissions processes, baseline care plans, Kardex development, and care transitions.
  • Conduct audits and assessments to evaluate compliance with State and Federal regulations and WesleyLife standards.
  • Identify areas of improvement and collaborate with community team members to create and implement actionable plans.
  • Prepare reports for local leaders and the Network Support Center outlining findings, risks, and recommendations.
  • Participate in annual DIA survey processes, mock surveys, and regulatory visits as requested.
