About The Position

The Regional Nurse Manager provides leadership, guidance and supervisory support to the Health Authorities within the region. Assists with ensuring the provision of healthcare is maintained within state and federal guidelines. Works in collaboration with Regional Operations to ensure health care is delivered in an effective and timely manner. As a part of the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) Health Services Unit, this position the supports the mission to strive for excellence in healthcare by supporting and promoting the well-being of persons in its custody. The Health Services Unit’s primary focus is providing quality healthcare while being good stewards of the Commonwealth’s resource.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Board of Health Professions (Virginia Board of Nursing) or Multi Compact License and Virginia Board of Health Professions license.
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.
  • Experience as a Supervisory Nurse/Nurse Director over multiple facilities.
  • Experience with monitoring staff performance, including the performance management process.
  • Possess an extensive working knowledge of the principles and practice of nursing administration.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing principles and evidence-based practices, to include Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), risk management, patient safety and the scope and standards of practice of correctional nursing published by the American Nurses Association (ANA).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively while using dialogic practices, evaluate performances, negotiate changes to improve services, and effective problem solving techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and suggest improvements in healthcare procedures and ensure excellent customer service is provided.
  • Requires extensive travel to VADOC facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete work assignments independently.
  • Ability to recognize and promote good working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing, coaching and counseling large groups of healthcare employees in an acute care setting.
  • Experience in Correctional Nursing.
