About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Regional Manager, Terminal Maintenance to lead the maintenance, reliability, and performance of our terminal assets across a dynamic and diverse operating environment. This is an exceptional opportunity for a proven maintenance leader who combines technical expertise, strategic planning, and people leadership to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient operations. As Regional Manager, Terminal Maintenance, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the ongoing reliability and safety of BC Ferries' extensive portfolio of terminal facilities, marine structures, and shore-based infrastructure. From marine structures and bridges to electrical systems, hydraulics, buildings, utilities, and civil infrastructure, you'll oversee complex maintenance programs that directly impact the safe movement of people and goods throughout coastal British Columbia.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or a related discipline; or Successful completion of a two-year community college diploma, technical institute certification, or equivalent (e.g. trades certification)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive maintenance experience in industrial, marine, infrastructure, facilities, utilities, transportation, or related environments
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams in a unionized workplace
  • Experience overseeing maintenance programs, infrastructure projects, budgets, and contractors
  • Maintenance and asset management expertise across multiple disciplines
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship-building abilities
  • Proven project and budget management experience
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving capabilities
  • Experience using CMMS platforms, preferably Maximo

Nice To Haves

  • Registration with EGBC is considered an asset
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Maintenance Management certifications are considered assets

Responsibilities

  • Drive Safe and Reliable Terminal Maintenance Operations: Lead the planning, development, and execution of comprehensive preventative, predictive, and reliability-centred maintenance programs for terminal marine structures, shore facilities, buildings, utilities, and critical infrastructure.
  • Ensure terminal assets are maintained to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations across the region.
  • Develop practical technical solutions to complex maintenance challenges and recommend effective courses of action.
  • Respond to operational emergencies and provide leadership during critical maintenance events to minimize service disruptions including responding periodically to after-hours call outs.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, and applicable legislation.
  • Lead Maintenance Projects and Asset Management: Plan, prioritize, and oversee maintenance initiatives and minor capital projects from planning through successful completion.
  • Manage operating and capital maintenance budgets, ensuring effective forecasting, financial stewardship, and cost control.
  • Support long-term asset reliability through proactive maintenance planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Balance operational priorities with strategic maintenance objectives to maximize asset performance and lifecycle value.
  • Build and Lead High-Performing Teams: Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of supervisors, planners, administrative staff, and skilled trades employees within a unionized environment.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain skilled maintenance professionals while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and leadership to supervisors, trades employees, planners, and administrative staff.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and positive labour relations within a unionized environment.
  • Assign, monitor, and evaluate work to ensure resources are effectively utilized and departmental objectives are achieved.
  • Provide performance management, coaching, and employee relations support, including administering the collective agreement and contributing to the collective bargaining process.
  • Manage Contractors and Service Delivery: Oversee the procurement and delivery of contracted maintenance services in accordance with corporate procurement and supply chain policies.
  • Evaluate contractor proposals, negotiate service agreements, and monitor contractor performance to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with contractors, consultants, and external partners.
  • Drive Maintenance Planning and Continuous Improvement: Leverage computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to plan, schedule, monitor, and optimize maintenance activities.
  • Develop and maintain accurate maintenance records, asset histories, and performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, systems, and operational efficiencies through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Champion Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management: Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring maintenance activities are completed in accordance with BC Ferries' safety standards and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective action planning to reduce operational risk.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, including WorkSafeBC, and ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and training requirements.
  • Ensure employees and contractors maintain required certifications, qualifications, and safe work practices.
