About The Position

Hydro One is seeking a Regional Maintainer Mechanical UTSIII to service and maintain mechanical equipment in efficient operating condition in various locations in Ontario. This role involves maintaining diesel and mini hydro generation units in Remote Communities. The successful candidate will troubleshoot, dismantle, overhaul, and assemble stationary and rotating mechanical equipment, and perform mechanical installations according to drawings and specifications. They will also submit written reports on the status and condition of mechanical equipment, act as a lead hand or contract monitor, and be responsible for work protection. Additional duties may include acting as an operator's switching agent, performing environmental management duties, and carrying out the duties of a Level III Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Requires a Grade XII education or the equivalent, and successful completion of a recognized four-year mechanical apprentice program.
  • Understands and operates equipment used in boring, cutting, reaming, grinding, drilling, and welding.
  • Understands and uses precision measuring instruments and other hand tools.
  • Has the necessary knowledge of trade theory, charts, tables and other reference works to dismantle, repair, align, assemble, and adjust large and small equipment within the specified tolerance.
  • Has a working knowledge of mechanical equipment, and a good working knowledge of rigging and scaffolding.
  • Requires a level of physical and medical fitness necessary for the completion of the requirements of this classification.
  • Required to obtain a valid and appropriate driver’s license.
  • Requires frequent travel and stay in remote or isolated communities.
  • Must be willing to fly on small aircraft on a regular basis.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills to maintain harmonious relationships with other staff, customers, agents and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Apprentices enrolled in Truck and Coach (310T) program, shall be deemed qualified to apply for this vacancy when they have successfully completed all of the Hydro One apprenticeship program.
  • All other Automotive Technician 310T apprenticeship, with a minimum of 6,000 hours in the trade and have their trade tasks matrix completed and book signed off by the appropriate authority are eligible to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Service and maintain mechanical equipment in efficient operating condition in various locations in Ontario.
  • Maintain diesel and mini hydro generation units in Remote Communities.
  • Troubleshoot, dismantle, overhaul and assemble stationary and rotating mechanical equipment.
  • Make mechanical installations in accordance with drawings, specifications and written or oral instructions, and submit written reports on the status and condition of mechanical equipment.
  • Act as a lead hand, and/or contract monitor as required and be responsible for the establishment and holding of necessary work protection.
  • Act as an operator’s switching agent if required and perform environmental management duties.
  • Keeps machinery and mechanical equipment in efficient operating condition.
  • Fits together the component mechanical parts of assemblies such as pipes, valves, pumps, turbines, generators, motors, governors, compressors, and control apparatus.
  • Diagnoses defects, dismantles, repairs, aligns, assembles, and adjusts such equipment.
  • Carry out the duties of a Level III Supervisor as outlined in the Maintenance Trades Supervisory Criteria and Responsibilities Matrix.
