About The Position

The Regional Locomotive Mechanic will travel between sites in Ohio and Delaware to inspect, maintain, and repair locomotives. This role involves performing routine inspections, troubleshooting and repairing diesel engines, electrical systems, and air brake systems. The mechanic will also be responsible for daily servicing, responding to breakdowns, testing brakes, batteries, and electrical systems, and tracking oil samples for early engine problem detection. Additionally, the position requires reading schematics, manuals, and parts catalogs, ordering parts, managing inventory, planning maintenance with site teams to reduce downtime, and using welding and cutting tools when necessary. The role also involves supporting safe work practices, following railroad safety rules, and recording inspections, repairs, and work orders in company systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 Years Experience maintaining and repairing locomotives (EMD experience preferred)
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read technical manuals and electrical schematics
  • Able to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use maintenance tracking systems
  • Strong focus on safety and following procedures
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Willing and able to travel regularly between job sites
  • Ability to meet various pre-employment requirements which may include but not limited to: Criminal background check, Drug and alcohol screening, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review; valid Driver's license required, Fitness-for-duty assessment to ensure that candidates can safely perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to receive and maintain site access credentials or badges per site-requirements

Responsibilities

  • Travel between sites in Ohio and Delaware to inspect, maintain, and repair locomotives

  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, electrical systems, and air brake systems
  • Complete daily servicing and respond to breakdowns to keep operations running
  • Perform testing on brakes, batteries, and electrical systems
  • Track oil samples to help find engine problems early
  • Read and use schematics, manuals, and parts catalogs to diagnose issues
  • Order parts and manage inventory needed for scheduled and unscheduled repairs
  • Work with site teams to plan maintenance and reduce downtime
  • Use welding and cutting tools when needed for repairs
  • Record inspections, repairs, and work orders in company systems
  • Support safe work practices and follow all railroad safety rules
