About The Position

This position will primarily support projects in the VADOC Central Region (Facilities & Offices) and reports to the Construction Project Administrator. The role is responsible for the planning of various projects up to $5 million, varying in difficulty and complexity. The position serves as the owner's representative and leads projects through the design, construction, and close-out processes. Responsibilities include schedule, scope, and budget management, quality assurance, safety and environmental compliance, and coordinating administrative and logistic support for assigned projects. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert for other project managers statewide, assisting in resolving complex construction project issues. The role actively participates in the productive, effective, and cost-efficient delivery of programs and services that support and enhance field operations to achieve the Department's goals, mission, and vision. The position provides professional oversight for authorized construction and design projects on behalf of the Department of Corrections for all phases of work from inception to completion, ensuring the Department's needs are met.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of construction project management processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and supervising numerous design and construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing technical problems and recommending corrective engineering solutions.
  • Experience communicating effectively with all management and support levels, other professionals, employees, and external contractors.
  • Experience managing project budgets through all phases to ensure expenditures and encumbrances do not exceed available funds.
  • VCCO certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of multiple design and construction projects.
  • Knowledge and experience with the codes, laws, and regulations governing construction and contractor procurement for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Division of Engineering and Buildings (DEB).
  • Experience with the Construction and Professional Services Manual.
  • Experience in public procurement and administrative processes.
  • Professional Engineering or Architecture license.
  • Knowledge of CADD or Revit.
