New River CTC seeks a creative and enthusiastic team member to serve as Gear Up Regional Coordinator for GEAR UP Southern West Virginia (GEAR UP SWV) serving five school districts: Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, Summers, and Wyoming county schools. GEAR UP SWV is funded by the US Department of Education to increase the college-going rate of low-income secondary school students in these school systems. This is a 7-year grant funded position, with 3-year remaining with plans to continue the program with a new grant proposal that must be approved. The Regional GEAR UP Coordinator will plan college awareness events to be held at New River Community and Technical College campuses that will serve GEAR UP SWV students and their families. The position will work with college staff, staff of the public-school districts and families of GEAR UP SWV students to plan and promote such events. The position will be responsible for ensuring the successful execution of events. The Regional GEAR UP Coordinator will also be responsible for mandatory reporting obligations under the GUSWV guidelines and will coordinate with external GEAR UP SWV staff. This is a non-classified, non-exempt position reporting directly to the Director of Student Services. The individual who holds this position must be comfortable with non-traditional work schedule, which may include working evening and weekend events. The GEAR UP SWV model will follow current 10th and 11th graders for the next 3 years. During that time the GEAR UP Regional Coordinator will be responsible for planning the delivery of events (on-campus and off-campus) with both students and their families. The GEAR UP Regional Coordinator will build program awareness and develop a schedule of workshops and camps.
