About The Position

The Office of State Lands and Investments, Wyoming State Forestry Division, seeks a Regional Fire Manager in Casper, Wyoming. This role is responsible for managing wildland fire incidents on state lands, working closely with local, state, and federal fire and emergency management agencies, as well as other stakeholders, to develop and implement fire management plans and strategies. Responsibilities include conducting risk assessments, preparing fire management plans, overseeing the implementation of fire management activities, supervising incident management teams, coordinating resources, overseeing the training and development of fire management personnel, and maintaining accurate records and reporting data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Fire Science or Forestry)
  • 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildland Fire Management or Forestry) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Wildland Fire Suppression Module Leader or equivalent
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must possess and maintain national certification in accordance with NWCG standards, PMS 310-1, within one (1) year of the date of hire
  • Knowledge of State of Wyoming, Office of State Lands and Investments procedures and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of wildland fire management and forestry management methods, operation practices and techniques.
  • Performs arduous physical activity for extended periods, and maintains required NWCG 310-1 physical fitness certification

  • Fireline qualifications: Task Force Leader, Incident Commander Type 3 (preferred), Incident Commander Type 4
  • Working towards qualifications: Incident Commander Type 3, Division/Group Supervisor, aviation or other incident management qualifications are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements fire management plans and strategies.
  • Leads and coordinates fire suppression activities on state lands.
  • Coordinates fire suppression on private lands.
  • Supervises and trains fire management personnel.
  • Conducts fire danger assessments and makes recommendations for fire management strategies.
  • Conducts fire management research and provides recommendations for best practices.
  • Collaborates with other agencies, organizations and stakeholders to coordinate fire management activities.
  • Develops and delivers fire management education and outreach programs.
  • Manages fuels program by coordinating with district staff, counties, and partner agencies.
  • Creates development plans for staff.
  • Coordinates pre-season meetings with local, state, and federal partners.
  • Coordinates suppression forces when fires are beyond the mutual aid period and assists fire management and district staff with agency representation (AREP) roles.
