About The Position

The Regional Director, Patient Access-Field (RDPA-Field) is a field-based leadership role responsible for leading and managing a team of Field Access Managers (FAMs) to ensure timely and efficient patient access to therapies after the prescribing decision has been made. This role involves developing and executing regional strategies to work with payers, providers, and patients to address patient access challenges, with a focus on optimizing the patient journey. The RDPA-Field collaborates with cross-functional teams, including national leadership, to align access strategies, address access barriers, and deliver impactful results. Additionally, the role drives team development and fosters a high-performing culture while ensuring accountability for achieving access-related objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry, with 4-7+ years in the biotech/specialty space.
  • At least 3+ years in access management roles and/or 3+ years of direct people management experience.
  • Expertise in US healthcare systems, payer landscapes, PBMs, MCOs, and Medicare/Medicaid policies.
  • Proven leadership capabilities with a strong track record of managing and developing high performing teams.
  • Strategic thinking and exceptional organizational and analytical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of specialty product access pathways and reimbursement practices.
  • Must be willing to travel (50% overnight, including weekends).
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing a team of Field Access Managers (FAMs) to ensure timely and efficient patient access to therapies after the prescribing decision has been made.
  • Developing and executing regional strategies to work with payers, providers, and patients to address patient access challenges, with a focus on optimizing the patient journey.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including national leadership, to align access strategies, address access barriers, and deliver impactful results.
  • Driving team development and fostering a high-performing culture while ensuring accountability for achieving access-related objectives.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of access and reimbursement processes, including buy-and bill, coding, billing, payer policy, and HUB programs.
  • Leverage field-based technology to optimize team performance and track progress toward regional access goals.
  • Develop and implement Management by Objectives (MBOs) for FAMs, ensuring alignment with national access goals. Conduct regular performance reviews and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Coach, mentor, and empower FAMs to deliver exceptional educational support to healthcare providers and patients to help facilitate patient access.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts to build a high-performing and diverse team.
  • Monitor team performance, addressing gaps through actionable development plans and preparing talent for leadership opportunities.
  • Execute regional patient access strategies in alignment with national objectives, ensuring patient needs remain central to decision-making.
  • Drive resolutions to complex access challenges, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Partner with Market Access, Commercial, HUB leadership, and other internal teams to align on access strategy and coordinate regional initiatives.
  • Serve as a thought leader in patient access, representing the field perspective in discussions with senior leadership and, when appropriate, external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Commercial and Medical teams to ensure cohesive and effective communication on access initiatives.
  • Foster a solutions-oriented mindset within the team, driving innovation to enhance patient access and streamline processes.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for team training and professional development to ensure adaptability to the evolving access landscape.
