About The Position

Landmark Funeral Group is seeking a Regional Director of Operations to lead the operational, financial, and leadership performance of approximately 10–15 funeral home locations within an assigned region. This role is responsible for translating company strategy into strong local execution—driving P&L performance, developing leaders, strengthening operations, and ensuring each location delivers exceptional service to families while preserving the local relationships and legacies that make our funeral homes unique. The ideal candidate needs to be located in the East/Central Ohio or PA proximity and will travel approximately 75% throughout the assigned region, including regular visits to funeral home locations and occasional overnight travel, with flexibility based on business and operational needs.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive operations leadership experience, including responsibility for multi-location operations and financial performance.
  • Demonstrated P&L ownership with experience managing budgets, forecasts, revenue growth, labor, expenses, and profitability.
  • Experience leading and developing managers and creating accountability across geographically dispersed locations.
  • Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to interpret financial statements, operating metrics, trends, and variances and translate them into action.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve operational performance through structured problem solving, performance management, standardization, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, influencing, and change-management skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic priorities with hands-on operational leadership and regular field presence.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort using financial, operational, CRM, and business intelligence systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned region.
  • Ability to travel approximately 75% throughout the assigned region, including regular visits to funeral home locations and occasional overnight travel, with flexibility based on business and operational needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in funeral service, death care, healthcare, hospitality, or another multi-site service business.
  • Familiarity with private equity-backed, acquisitive, or high-growth multi-location organizations.
  • Demonstrated success integrating acquisitions and standardizing operations across newly acquired locations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Finance, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Funeral Director license or direct funeral service background is a plus but not required, unless required by applicable state law or the responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership and oversight for approximately 10–15 funeral home locations across the assigned region.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and operating rhythms for area and location leaders, including business reviews, scorecards, action plans, and follow-up.
  • Monitor location and regional performance, identify trends and gaps, and implement action plans to improve results.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, scheduling, facilities, equipment, inventory, and operational resources are in place to support service delivery and business needs.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Preneed, M&A, and other teams to execute regional and company priorities.
  • Lead implementation and change management for new processes, systems, programs, and organizational initiatives.
  • Own regional P&L performance, including revenue, EBITDA, margin, expenses, and cash-related expectations.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets and forecasts in partnership with Finance and location leadership.
  • Review financial results, budget-to-actual performance, variances, and key operating drivers and take action when results are off target.
  • Drive disciplined management of labor, overtime, purchasing, controllable expenses, accounts receivable, and other key cost drivers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve revenue per call, service mix, merchandise performance, preneed growth, market share, and other revenue drivers while maintaining family-centered service.
  • Build financial accountability and business acumen among area and location leaders.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and hold accountable Managing Area Funeral Directors and/or location leaders across the region.
  • Build a strong leadership bench and succession pipeline by identifying high-potential employees and creating development opportunities.
  • Lead performance management, goal setting, feedback, and development planning for direct reports.
  • Partner with Human Resources on recruiting, retention, employee relations, compensation, performance concerns, and workforce planning.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, respect, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute strategies that strengthen market share, call volume, preneed performance, community presence, and sustainable growth.
  • Support local marketing, community engagement, referral relationships, and reputation-building efforts.
  • Ensure locations consistently deliver compassionate, professional, timely, and first-class service to families.
  • Monitor family feedback, service quality, complaints, and operational issues and ensure appropriate follow-up and corrective action.
  • Balance operational and financial performance with Landmark’s commitment to dignity, compassion, community relationships, and local funeral home legacies.
  • Ensure assigned locations operate in compliance with applicable laws, licensing requirements, health and safety standards, and Landmark policies.
  • Monitor facility conditions and capital needs and partner with leadership to prioritize maintenance and capital investments.
  • Support operational diligence and the integration of newly acquired funeral homes into Landmark operating practices, reporting, systems, and leadership expectations.
  • Identify best practices across locations and scale successful processes throughout the region.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve productivity, strengthen reporting, and improve the employee and family experience.
