About The Position

The Regional Director of Finance & Business Support (RDOF) provides strategic leadership, functional guidance and valuable insights to Operations Leaders, Partners, Executive Committees and Department Heads for optimal business decisions for hotels within the region. This role interacts with ownership groups, asset managers, hotel legal counsel, insurance companies, tax consultants, auditors, and commercial and government banks to effectively control the assets of the business. The role is an interdependent part of the core regional team and requires a highly motivated team player with strong accounting, communication, business presentation, and analytical skills, as well as strong multi-unit business and finance leadership experience.

  • Experience with accounting system or similar financial software for the purpose of financial reporting, analysis and presentation.
  • Ability to assess and understand a variety of internal and external economic and financial issues which impact the business, to analyze data and forecast future business trends, and to develop effective financial plans based on businesses assessments in multiple locations.
  • Knowledge of finance, budgeting and accounting processes and regulations with demonstrated knowledge of capital project management, standards and techniques, and GAAP regulations and procedures.
  • Must be able to multi-task and be detail-oriented in a fast paced, high-volume environment.

  • Must maintain sanitation procedures as directed.
  • Must be available to travel.
  • Must have manual dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, photocopiers, FAX machines, multi-line touch tone phone, and other office equipment as needed.
  • Accounting Designation, Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Finance, or a relevant field of work, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of work experience as a Director of Finance, ideally in multiple progressive, in size and complexity, hotels.
  • Experienced in all areas of finance and accounting; capital project management, financial reporting and analysis, merger and acquisition analysis, and / or related areas.
  • The ideal candidate has previous experience managing multiple hotels or business units.
  • Experience in leading & developing people and multiple teams.
  • All Candidates must be in possession of identification proving authorization to work in the United States as defined in the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA).

Responsibilities

  • Business Partnering and Performance Management: Create and embrace a culture of business partnering by working with the RVP, Hotel Directors of Finance & Business Support, Hotel General Managers, and the VP of Finance & Business Support to achieve optimal operating performance and returns. Develop and manage key relationships to provide financial support and understanding of short and long-term financial plans. Review financial performance, analyze variances, forecasts, and budgets. Challenge existing strategies and recommend alternate strategies. Contribute to business decisions, ensuring full revenue generation and capturing of all revenues. Oversee the development and implementation of corrective action plans based on audits and operational reports. Develop the business acumen of Hotel Leadership teams. Promote and maximize GOP Theoretical Flow Through. Support the RVP and Hotel General Managers in developing strong business relationships with hotel ownership groups. Provide leadership in rolling out company initiatives and projects.
  • Financial Planning, Reporting and Analysis: Analyze and interpret financial data, communicating meaningful variations. Analyze balance sheet accounts and review monthly internal benchmarking and operational performance reports. Lead the development and implementation of benchmarking techniques to enhance revenues and improve productivity and cost efficiencies. Seek, identify, and implement best practices. Oversee the preparation of annual budgets, capital budgets, and rolling forecasts. Establish budget preparation timelines, procedures, and guidelines. Recommend and engage with Operations in the design, implementation, and use of methods and procedures to improve accuracy of working schedules, labor standards, forecasts, and plans. Monitor the accuracy of measurements and recommend corrections. Review and analyze reports from buying programs to improve costs. Review and analyze monthly forecast accuracy reports. Provide accurate and complete financial and management reports to regional management and the corporate office. Report accurately and timely actual results compared to budget/forecast. Maintain adequate records of actual expenditures versus budgeted amounts for furniture, equipment, and operating equipment. Oversee all facets of the Hotel property capital process. Ensure tracking of fixed assets sub-ledgers and depreciation. Participate in the development, maintenance, and adherence to a single chart of accounts, payroll and expense dictionary, and the function of accounts. Oversee the preparation of all financial statements, accounting and statistical reports, and any other special reports. Interpret reports and communicate results with the RVP Hotel Operations.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure properties report in compliance with the Uniform Chart of Accounts, Accor Policies & Procedures, ownership and bank documents, and hotel management or other contractual agreements. Ensure compliance with all laws and fiscal regulations, including obtaining proper permits and licenses. Protect owners' and management company's interests in hotel assets and operations. Act as the guardian of Property Management Agreements, understanding and managing terms, priorities, performance tests, fees, and distribution requirements. Monitor and manage the safekeeping of all hotel leases, contracts, and other legal records. Conduct regular operations risk assessments, establish a risk register, and assist with preparing an action plan for risk mitigation. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all incidents. Control systems are monitored and audited regularly to measure compliance with internal controls. Segregation of duties for non-compatible functions is enforced. Controls are explained and understood by all employees. Accountable for the development, documentation, and maintenance of control systems within the Hotels. Review and approve MIP and SIP payments. Ensure cash flow is adequate to meet hotel operations needs. Review balance sheets at hotels and regionally. Be responsible for remediation action plans. Develop, implement, and monitor credit and collection procedures and guidelines.
  • People and Talent Management: Work within the Talent Management System to ensure departmental performance of hotel staff is productive. Operate efficiently and optimize staffing levels. Plan for future staffing needs (Succession Planning), focusing on succession planning of DOFs and Assistant DOFs. Plan and coordinate coverage for property vacancies, filling in vacant DOF positions as needed. Recruit in line with company guidelines. Prepare detailed orientation programs for new DOFs. Maintain and oversee the implementation of departmental standards and procedures. Ensure training needs analysis is carried out and training programs are designed and implemented. Deliver training. Actively work at developing direct reports and identify high potentials. Cross-train and task force to develop talent. Conduct probation and formal performance appraisals. Coach, counsel, and discipline staff, providing constructive feedback. Approve leave requests. Regularly communicate with staff to maintain positive relationships. Perform other similar or related duties as necessary.
