About The Position

The Office of the Chief of Special Education and Specialized Programs, Multilingual Multicultural Education Department (MMED) is seeking a Regional Coordinator for TK-12 Multilingual Academic Language. This role, under the direct supervision of the Executive Director of MMED, will collaborate to implement standards-based instruction across content areas aligned with California content frameworks. The coordinator will utilize a multi-tiered approach, Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Pedagogy (CLRP), and evidence-based strategies to enhance teacher capacity and ensure mastery of core instruction, acceleration, and enrichment for multilingual academic language learners. This includes supporting Emergent Bilingual (EB), reclassified fluent English proficient (RFEP), migrant and refugee education, dual language (DL), American Indian, and Indigenous students.

Requirements

  • At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a leadership position(s) (e.g. coordinator, instructional coach, dean).
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential.
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university.
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework (Applicants have one year to complete this requirement).

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years of administrative experience as a principal, assistant principal, or region coordinator.
  • Full English Learner Authorization (BCLAD, CLAD, ELA1, Bilingual Authorization, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of state and federal laws and District policies and procedures, as they relate to multilingual language learners.
  • Knowledge of and ability to plan, design, and implement differentiated professional development.
  • Knowledge of and ability to conduct peer coaching or mentoring for instructional support staff.
  • Knowledge and experience with MyData, FOCUS, MiSiS, and other District reporting and tracking systems.
  • Experience with District budget guidelines and implementing program budgets.
  • Experience in working with EB, DLE, Migrant and Refugee Education, American Indian, and Indigenous students.
  • Experience with the development and evaluation of instructional programs and services.
  • Experience with presenting to large and small groups.
  • Ability to use technology and access data to inform instruction, professional development, intervention and instructional plans.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with District/region/school support staff, teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups.
  • Ability to compose and comprehend written communication.
  • A valid California driver license and the ability to travel to other sites and locations throughout the District.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the implementation of instructional guidelines and/or priorities for the education of multilingual academic language learners in alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan, the Multilingual Multicultural Master Plan, and state/federal guidelines.
  • Coordinates and oversees the regional implementation of instructional programs and services for multilingual academic language learners.
  • Supervises and manages all program financial activities associated with the Single Plan for Student Achievement, English Learner (EL) Improvement, and EL Achievements Plans.
  • Supports senior leadership in implementing professional development and instructional initiatives articulated by MMED and regions.
  • Leads and supervises Multilingual Multicultural Accelerated Learning coaches (MMALC) staff and provides professional development to EB designees, TSP advisers, and teachers in alignment with core content, English Language Development (ELD) standards, ELA/ELD Framework, EL Roadmap, grade-level standards-based instruction, academic language development, and evidence-based practices/strategies.
  • Supervises and monitors comprehensive instructional programs in and through the academic content areas.
  • Leads regional program reviews of schools, including Federal Program Monitoring and Title III audits.
  • Prepares regional instructional progress monitoring reports for the MMED.
  • Leads and supervises content and technical program support to school support staff and administrators to ensure that the District’s multilingual multicultural instructional programs and services are implemented with fidelity.
  • Uses student-centered data to identify, inform and design region-wide professional development, acceleration and enrichment program strategies to impact the instructional needs of multilingual academic language learners.
  • Leads and supervises school-site visits to ensure implementation of multilingual language learner’s instructional services.
  • Supervises hands-on technical guidance and supports to EB, TSP advisers, and MMALCs.
  • Uses the multi-tiered approach to impact academic achievement and acceleration using Tier I, II, and III supports.
  • Leads, supervises, and evaluates regional MMALC staff effectiveness and maintains employee records.
  • Leads the training of EB, MMALCs, and support personnel to analyze language learner data to further communicate and strengthen instructional impact.
  • Monitors the progress of students’ academic language development individually, by typology groups, and school-wide, using MiSiS reports, FOCUS Dashboard, and Whole Child Integrated Data.
  • Supervises and monitors the correction of program data errors.
  • Coordinates and oversees the facilitation of mandatory central and regional professional development to expand the implementation of pedagogical strategies, content knowledge, and systematic analysis of student data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary: 41G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – A Basis ($141,102 – $176,010) – 261 paid days
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
  • This position is deemed certificated under Education Code Section 44065, but may not qualify for "creditable service" under Education Code Section 22119.5 for CalSTRS benefits. However, if the candidate chosen for the position is already a CalSTRS member, he/she can fill out an election form to remain in CalSTRS and thereby obtain CalSTRS credit for this service.
