About The Position

Waste Pro is seeking an experienced Regional Controller with a strong background in the solid waste, recycling, environmental services, or waste hauling industry to provide financial leadership and strategic business support across multiple operating divisions within the Southeast Florida region. This is not a traditional accounting role. We are looking for a finance leader who understands the operational side of the waste industry and can partner with leadership to improve profitability, drive performance, support acquisitions, and influence key business decisions. The ideal candidate has experience managing the financial operations of multiple locations and possesses a deep understanding of route profitability, municipal and franchise agreements, fleet operations, disposal costs, capital planning, pricing strategies, acquisitions, and operational performance metrics unique to the waste industry. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Controller or Regional Controller experience within the waste, recycling, or environmental services industry.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with operations and executive leadership.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.

  • Advanced financial reporting and financial statement preparation

  • Familiarity and use of Crystal reporting, FRx report writing, ERP tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Waste industry experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with finance or accounting experience supporting waste, recycling, environmental services, or solid waste operations are highly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly financial close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and management reporting.
  • Analyze operating performance, profitability, productivity, labor costs, disposal expenses, fleet costs, and key financial metrics across multiple divisions.
  • Partner with operational leadership to improve margins, reduce costs, maximize EBITDA, and identify opportunities for increased profitability.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, capital budgets, and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor financial trends, variances, cash flow, return on investment, and operating performance.
  • Review customer profitability, pricing strategies, franchise fees, municipal contracts, and revenue opportunities.
  • Support capital expenditure planning and fixed asset management.
  • Oversee regional accounting activities, including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, corporate policies, internal controls, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Prepare executive-level financial presentations and performance reporting.
  • Provide financial support for mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, financial modeling, pro forma development, and post-acquisition integration.
  • Develop financial reporting tools that provide meaningful operational insight.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop regional accounting personnel while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Attend and participate in corporation sponsored training courses as assigned.
  • Keep up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by Waste Pro USA.
  • Perform any additional job duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor.
