About The Position

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Marketing, Food Distribution Program is seeking a PR & Marketing Specialist III. Duties include supervising the application of regulations and policies of the Food Distribution Program for schools and institutions receiving foods donated by the USDA. This position will be based in Roanoke with regional responsibility for supported assigned counties and adjacent cities. Requires frequent regional travel (occasionally overnight) to visit Virginia schools and institutions to market Virginia foods, develop institutional food service marketing data and conduct administrative reviews in assigned region. Work closely with Food Banks to ensure the distribution of the USDA commodities meet all federal and state guidelines. Monitors contractual performance of food distributors and resolves problems with distributors and recipient food institutions.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of institutional food service operations, nutrition or food science/safety principles, inventory systems and control and reporting processes.
  • Exceptional and enthusiastic customer service skills.
  • Ability to apply basic principles of marketing and promotional concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to work independently; to organize and present ideas, materials and concepts clearly; and to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting government regulatory contractual terms and data.
  • Capability to provide detailed responses and explanations of related procedures, regulations, contracts and policy requirements to program clients and vendors.
  • Experience planning and scheduling workloads.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers to include the use of MS Office Suite and other related applications.
  • H.S Diploma/GED required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety.
