About The Position

The American Red Cross is seeking a Regional CEO for its Massachusetts Region, which serves 6.9 million residents across 351 cities and towns. This role is based at the regional headquarters in Dedham, MA. The position requires knowledge of the state and its key stakeholders. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree (BS/BA) in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Finance or non-profit administration or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 10 years’ related experience in the profit or not-for-profit sector in business, sales or corporate administration.
  • Proven track record in raising significant financial resources.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience directing a workforce and program management responsibilities.
  • Organizational Agility – knowledgeable about how organizations work; knows how to get things done both through formal channels and informal network; understands the origin and reasoning behind key policies, practices and procedures; understands the cultures of organizations.

  • Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

  • Prefer Master’s degree in the field of community organization, public or business administration or nonprofit management.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve core mission delivery, including performance targets in mission, fundraising, communications/marketing, volunteer services, and operational management.
  • Support blood donor sponsorships and recruitment.
  • Serve as the face of the American Red Cross for community initiatives, media, donors, biomedical initiatives, blood sponsors, and communities.
  • Lead a team of regional functional officers and Executive Directors.
  • Act as the primary supervisor for regional functional officers and Executive Directors, partnering with division leadership to ensure organizational programs are executed.
  • Partner with Executive Directors to develop and engage volunteer boards and community volunteer leadership.
  • Build a diverse and engaged regional employee and volunteer workforce representative of the communities served, upholding the core values of the American Red Cross.
  • Provide support, development, and leadership guidance to all volunteers.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Build and cultivate strong external relationships with key organizations and community leaders, including donors, blood sponsors, governments, corporations, civic organizations, military, and other community charitable and nonprofit agencies.
  • Ensure strong visibility for the American Red Cross in the regional jurisdiction, increasing and leveraging community awareness and commitment.
  • Ensure regular local media and social media communications regarding Red Cross services and activities.
  • Build a strong collaborative environment across all lines of service and business units in the region.
  • Provide leadership and strategy for improved performance.
  • Ensure community needs are communicated to service lines and business units, and that Red Cross programs and capacity needs are communicated to the community.
  • Build regional capacity for service delivery through program development and engagement/retention of volunteers and partners.
  • Ensure consistent, responsive, and timely delivery of high-quality services throughout the region.
  • Engage youth and young adults through Red Cross Clubs integrated into service delivery plans.
  • May serve roles in coordination with national response operations.
  • Oversee Board Members and Community Volunteer Leaders within the assigned region or geographic area.
  • Build and guide activities of Chapter Boards, ensuring diversity of leadership and representation of major organizations and community leaders.
  • Lead and support the selection and engagement of diverse Community Volunteer Leaders.
  • Recruit, train, engage, and reward volunteers.
  • Treat all clients, volunteers, guests, and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner, maintaining a cooperative culture.
  • Work with a volunteer partner to ensure key volunteers are utilized to create depth within the function.
  • Deliver overall targets/goals of the Region including service delivery, workforce engagement, biomed support, revenue, and expense.
  • Maintain compliance with corporate governance, policies, and governmental regulations.
  • Ensure sound financial management and public accountability for contributions, income, expense, and all Red Cross assets.
  • Provide leadership and management of assigned staff in partnership with division leadership.
  • Uphold the core values of the organization.
  • Achieve fundraising goals across their Region in conjunction with the Division Fundraising Vice President (DFVP).
  • Co-lead key regional staff and goals with the DFVP.
  • Actively participate in developing fundraising strategies and efforts to grow financial resources.
  • Increase community awareness and commitment to the American Red Cross by being an active community participant.
  • Shape, lead, motivate, and develop leadership teams.
  • Work on a diverse team of Executives.
  • Develop effective work teams and build consensus within the organization and community.
  • Exercise good and timely judgments in complex situations.
  • Possess strong communication and influencing skills along with public speaking and writing.
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies.
  • Proven track record in raising significant financial resources.
  • Ability to work on a team.
  • May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.
