About The Position

The Region Safety Manager works in collaboration with operational leadership and the functional safety team to identify and control exposure and drive a culture of safety. The role will direct and facilitate field safety activities and continuous improvement of safety standards. The Region Safety Manager is also responsible for validating and ensuring company compliance with all Federal and State agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or education and experience working in an LTL operations environment.
  • Three (3) years or more field experience with safety as a primary responsibility.
  • Strong communication skills to receive and convey information effectively: oral and written comprehension and expression.
  • High level of motivation, ability to efficiently work with little supervision, effective multi-tasking and prioritizing skills, and ability to positively influence others.
  • Ability to operate in a field operations environment with varying weather conditions and fluctuating shift coverage.
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment, cell phones, computer technology, and regulatory websites.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional credentials and certification a plus, such as OSHA 10 / 30, NATMI - CSS, CDS; BCSP - STS, ASP, CSP; Smith System Certification
  • Prior experience as CDL Driver or Trainer

Responsibilities

  • Working directly with Operations Leadership, develop a safety culture rooted in the identification and elimination of exposure.
  • Organize work to directly impact defined safety strategy and key initiatives.
  • Ensure safety improvement plans and corrective action to reduce exposure, injury and collisions; provide necessary tools, resources and support.
  • Train and develop field leadership through instructor led sessions, demonstrations, meetings, coaching events, and use of prepared curriculum and job aids.
  • Verify the effectiveness of field safety committees and initiatives; assist in the alignment of resources.
  • Review onsite performance, audit results, and supporting data.
  • Identify and address compliance gaps with appropriate leadership in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure terminal compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws governing the operation of equipment used in transportation.
  • Participate in annual DOT compliance audits as required.
  • Monitor the company Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) scores to eliminate exposure and remain below intervention.
  • Review and investigate vehicle accidents and injuries.
  • Ensure effective emergency response and notification protocol for serious accidents, injuries and reporting of Hazardous Material releases.
  • Assist with safety representation in local safety legal matters.
  • Participate in the recognition of safety award recipients and demonstrations of positive recognition for safe behavior.
  • Establish trust and credibility by maintaining a high level of integrity and communications with terminal operations teams.
  • Travel to multiple site locations approximately 50-75% of the time.
