About The Position

The Region Associate Director (RAD) is a remote leadership position responsible for leading a high-performing field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team trained in Neurology. This role provides input to medical planning that supports the safe and effective use of BMS medicines by patients, physicians, and payers. The RAD also collaborates with senior management on national medical initiatives, manages account responsibilities across current and future portfolios, and liaises with R&D to align interests and enhance customer satisfaction. This position reports to a national Field Medical Director and is expected to uphold the highest standards of quality, compliance, ethics, and integrity.

Requirements

  • MD, PharmD, PhD, APP, PA, NP with experience in neuroscience, mental health, or Alzheimer’s Disease or with a broad medical background and relevant pharmaceutical experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and/or experience of healthcare and access environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of Neurology/Alzheimer’s Disease/mental health and an understanding of scientific publications principles and implications of pharmacoeconomic data.
  • Knowledge of the US Healthcare System and the Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • Understanding of environmental and industry trends (e.g., Market Access and Patient Advocacy) and their impact on the business.
  • Knowledge of regional key institutions/IDNs/Health Systems.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial design, process, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant compliance standards.
  • Clinical experience in Neurology/Alzheimer’s Disease/mental health or with a broad medical background.
  • Clear understanding of customer (HCP and payer) and patient needs.
  • Understanding of ASMART principles in goal setting.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, in spoken and written word.
  • Ability to effectively communicate/listen and answer questions.
  • Appreciation of the complexities of cross-functional and joint venture management issues.
  • Demonstrated technical acumen including MS Office skills.
  • Ability to adopt and leverage multiple business applications.
  • A minimum of 8+ years working in a clinical and/or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Including a minimum of 6 years Field Medical experience with documented demonstration of exceptional performance in leadership, management of people and medical planning.
  • Demonstrated ability in account management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead national field medical projects or initiatives.
  • Work in cross-functional teams with proven track record managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Track record in effectively managing risk and compliance.
  • Work in a matrix environment with ability to succeed in an ambiguous environment.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring within a FM organization.
  • Leading and executing autonomously.
  • Communicating scientific and/or clinical data to researchers and/or HCPs.
  • Building credible, scientifically oriented relationships with External Experts within the DA and clinical practice leaders/access decision makers.
  • Quickly and comprehensively learn about new subject areas and healthcare environments.
  • Has successfully served as Product Point, JV Point or Launch Point.
  • Broad range of experience in other therapeutic areas and/or in other functions with the industry is desirable.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills as demonstrated by and documented in previous performance reviews.

Nice To Haves

  • Travel required, including frequent travel to PPK home office.
  • The RAD will spend the majority of their time in the field with their team and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team in Neurology.
  • Provide input to medical planning to support the safe and effective use of medicines.
  • Collaborate with senior management on national medical initiatives.
  • Manage account responsibilities for current and future portfolios.
  • Liaise with R&D to align interests and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Identify talent, conduct interviews, and fill vacancies for Field Medical (FM) and other Medical personnel.
  • Implement talent retention strategies and ensure new staff complete onboarding and training.
  • Develop and track performance goals for direct reports and the regional FM team.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and feedback to direct reports.
  • Conduct performance assessments and participate in talent conversations.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, team spirit, and accountability.
  • Provide training on scientific engagement with external customers.
  • Identify and communicate skills/knowledge gaps within the FM team.
  • Represent customer concerns and needs to internal stakeholders.
  • Set and track performance objectives for the team.
  • Continuously update team knowledge of the Disease Area (DA), treatment trends, product data, and scientific activities.
  • Ensure FM team engages in timely scientific exchanges with external customers and internal partners.
  • Develop field medical staff and prepare them for expanded roles.
  • Create and execute innovative employee development programs.
  • Develop training initiatives with national impact.
  • Manage account responsibilities for at least two accounts.
  • Develop and execute medical account plans and orchestrate relationship management.
  • Contribute strategic and visionary thinking on a national level.

  • Coordinate regional scientific support aligned with FM Plans and business issues.
  • Provide strategic input and insights for compliant collaboration across the matrix.
  • Promote effective working relationships with internal partners.

  • Ensure appropriate regional management of speaker lists and speaker program support.
  • Contribute FM expertise to regional accounts aligned with Brand and Medical strategy.
  • Collaborate on global initiatives and activities.

  • Maintain strong knowledge of regional and national External Experts.
  • Ensure FM team captures and communicates relevant medical insights.
  • Support FM team in developing strong networks with External Experts.
  • Review/approve key thought leaders/HCPs for focused medical reach.
  • Understand the needs of thought leaders, payers, and patients.
  • Facilitate relevant information exchange.
  • Guide team members in appropriate application of Thought Leader profiling.
  • Demonstrate customer-facing responsibility at aligned accounts.

  • Contribute to the development and shaping of customer-centric approaches and medical insight programs.
  • Use innovative approaches to provide seamless customer experiences.

  • Participate as an active member of the Medical matrix team.
  • Interface with Home Office (PPK-based) at least twice per year for strategic thinking.
  • Create and execute 1-2 medical initiatives per year.
  • Communicate information to the national team and ensure execution of Medical Strategies.
  • Engage in collaboration with regional sales and access matrix teams.
  • Collaborate with US (+/- Global) Medical and Commercial colleagues on Brand planning.
  • Develop the Product FM Plan for the team.
  • Develop Region-level Field Medical Plans.
  • Provide input into Medical Products Plans and Strategies.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Matrix team members.
  • Provide strategic leadership and insights into the development of Medical Product and Disease State Plans.
  • Assess, identify, and contribute to the resolution of gaps in FM resources.
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of the therapeutic training plan.
  • Facilitate scientific collaboration within accounts.
  • Establish trusted partner relationships with senior leaders at accounts.
  • Create collaborative exchanges with accounts.
  • Track FM region activity toward clinical trial visits/ISR management.
  • Ensure FM role in investigator proposal submission for clinical trials is compliant.
  • Ensure FM participation in providing input on clinical trial site selection and feasibility.
  • Ensure collaboration with Region Clinical Operations partners.
  • Ensure FM team's execution of clinical trial support activities.
  • Ensure FM team has knowledge to identify Adverse Events (AEs) and comply with Pharmacovigilance SOPs.
  • Contribute to managing external communication during safety issues.
  • Understand and adhere to BMS Standards of Business Conduct and Ethics.
  • Understand PhRMA Code, ICH, GCP, and relevant FDA laws and regulations.
  • Complete and certify understanding of all required training.
  • Convey a clear message on laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
