About The Position

Utilizes a diagnostic ultrasound machine to obtain the required two dimensional and M-mode views of the cardiac anatomy. Measures the views that have been taken and puts results on paper for the physician to read by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • BLS: Basic Life Support (Within 1 month of hire or transfer, Qualification Source: AHA)
  • ARDMS: Ultrasound Technologist
  • Associates Degree required.
  • Graduate of a Radiological Technology or Ultrasound Technology program approved by the American Medical Association.
  • Documentation of skills required to perform cardiac ultrasound exams
  • Basic typing required.
  • Valid state credentials, when applicable.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done as required.
  • Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
  • May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
  • May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • Light Physical Demand Level: Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.

  • RDMS or Cardiovascular Credentialing International registry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the cardiac diagnostic ultrasound machine to obtain the required views. These include: two-dimensional mode, including parasternal long axis view, the parasternal short axis view, the apical four chamber view, sub-costal views and suprasternal views.
  • Performs color-flows and pulsed wave doppler testing.
  • Performs holter monitoring set up and preferably scanning.
  • Performs EKG's when necessary.
  • Assists with cardiac stress testing, when necessary, either by running the stress equipment or taking blood pressures.
  • Performs other duties within cardiopulmonary services as qualified.
  • Follows policies and procedures for infection control and facility safety in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Presents oneself well-groomed and professional to staff and Medical Center personnel.
  • Participates in facility Quality Improvement/IOP programs as determined by supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
