About The Position

Utilizes a diagnostic ultrasound machine to obtain the required two dimensional and M-mode views of the cardiac anatomy. Measures the views that have been taken and puts results on paper for the physician to read by performing the following duties.

Requirements

BLS: Basic Life Support (Within 1 month of hire or transfer, Qualification Source: AHA)
ARDMS: Ultrasound Technologist
Associates Degree required.
Graduate of a Radiological Technology or Ultrasound Technology program approved by the American Medical Association.
Documentation of skills required to perform cardiac ultrasound exams
Basic typing required.
Valid state credentials, when applicable.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Mandatory tuberculosis (TB) testing must be done as required.
Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Light Physical Demand Level: Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.

RDMS or Cardiovascular Credentialing International registry preferred.

Responsibilities

Operates the cardiac diagnostic ultrasound machine to obtain the required views. These include: two-dimensional mode, including parasternal long axis view, the parasternal short axis view, the apical four chamber view, sub-costal views and suprasternal views.
Performs color-flows and pulsed wave doppler testing.
Performs holter monitoring set up and preferably scanning.
Performs EKG's when necessary.
Assists with cardiac stress testing, when necessary, either by running the stress equipment or taking blood pressures.
Performs other duties within cardiopulmonary services as qualified.
Follows policies and procedures for infection control and facility safety in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Presents oneself well-groomed and professional to staff and Medical Center personnel.
Participates in facility Quality Improvement/IOP programs as determined by supervisor.
Performs other related duties as assigned
