About The Position

The Refrigeration Technician is responsible for maintaining various equipment including ammonia refrigeration systems, Freon refrigeration units, building heating and air conditioning equipment, high pressure steam boiler systems, hot water generators, compressed air systems, electrical distribution equipment, building sprinkler systems, and other supporting equipment. The role ensures the continuous operation of all facility utility systems and peripheral equipment to support production schedules and facility conditions through proper coordination of operations and maintenance. This position also coordinates internal and external resources for facility maintenance, assists with record-keeping and training for Process Safety Management/Risk Management plans, performs preventative maintenance, and utilizes technical documentation for overhauls and repairs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of equipment set-up, functions, operating procedures, and preventative maintenance techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of best practices in maintenance and safety management.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements as related to plant and utilities systems’ operations, safety, and environmental agencies.
  • Knowledge of best available energy management practices and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, operating manuals, and maintenance instructions in English.
  • Ability to complete forms detailing maintenance work performed.
  • Requires state of New Jersey licenses for operation of hazardous refrigeration and high-pressure steam systems (Blue & Black Seals).
  • Requires valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge in programmable logic controllers (PLCs) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains ammonia refrigeration systems, Freon packaged refrigeration units, building heating and air conditioning equipment, high pressure steam boiler systems, hot water generators, compressed air systems, electrical distribution equipment, building sprinkler systems, and other supporting equipment.
  • Ensures continuous operation of all facility utility systems and peripheral equipment to support production schedules and facility conditions.
  • Coordinates internal and external resources for maintenance of the facility.
  • Assists in record-keeping and training requirements for Process Safety Management/Risk management plans.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Utilizes drawings, technical records, and vendor diagrams to complete Preventative Maintenance documents for machine overhauls and repairs.
  • Provides technical analysis and services for real-time data on refrigeration and operational equipment.
  • Takes a leadership role on the emergency response team in the event of a hazardous chemical release.
  • Assures ammonia compressors operate safely and efficiently to reduce energy consumption.
