About The Position

RQ Construction is seeking a Commercial Refrigeration Technician to support mission-critical construction projects for the Department of Defense at Naval Station Mayport FL and surrounding areas. This role is embedded within our Mechanical team and will work on active federal construction sites, installing, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting commercial refrigeration systems. In this position, you'll be hands-on with newly installed refrigeration systems-installing piping and components, brazing refrigerant lines, testing electrical and refrigeration circuits, performing start-up and commissioning activities, and troubleshooting system issues. Your work directly impacts system performance, project turnover timelines, and our ability to deliver safe, fully operational facilities to our federal clients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of commercial refrigeration installation and/or service experience
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, refrigerant piping, brazing, and system commissioning
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and basic electronics
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required
  • OSHA 10-Hour certification required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must be able to pass required background screening and drug testing for access to federal/military installations

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 30 preferred
  • NCCER HVAC/R certification or completion of a registered HVAC/R apprenticeship preferred

Responsibilities

  • Install commercial refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, valves, controls, piping, and related components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, refrigeration schematics, and manufacturer specifications
  • Braze, solder, measure, cut, thread, and bend refrigerant piping according to project requirements
  • Perform pressure testing, leak detection, evacuation, refrigerant charging, and system testing
  • Test electrical circuits, components, controls, piping, and connections using appropriate test equipment
  • Commission refrigeration systems and verify proper system balance, controls, and operation
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, refrigerant, and control-system issues
  • Inspect completed installations and identify and correct deficiencies prior to project acceptance
  • Perform refrigerant recovery and reclaiming in accordance with EPA Section 608 requirements
  • Coordinate installation and work sequencing with other trades, subcontractors, and field supervision
  • Follow all project and company safety requirements, including LOTO, PPE, hot-work procedures, and jobsite housekeeping
