About The Position

This role is primarily responsible for maintaining, operating, inspecting, and repairing various types of ammonia refrigeration equipment for a poultry processing plant. The technician will perform preventative and predictive maintenance, periodically test and inspect equipment to ensure it operates within manufacturer’s specifications and tolerances, and troubleshoot and repair equipment problems as needed. All work must be performed in compliance with company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines, and local, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Required to pass NOCTI HVAC/Refrigeration test, Level I.
• Intermediate math and computer skills.
• Basic understanding of ammonia refrigeration equipment.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and general mechanical systems.
• Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hours.
• Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.
• Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs.
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in areas where required.
• Stand up to 8 hours.
• Lift up to 60 lbs.
• May be exposed to heat (99ºF, 37ºC) and cold (45ºF, 4ºC).
• Exposure to wet and dusty environment.
• Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling.
• Work around raw, live animal odors.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily operations of the ammonia refrigeration compressor room under direct supervision.
• Take and record required system readings, understand the implications of variances, and report to appropriate personnel/leader.
• Perform basic maintenance as directed.
• Identify unsafe conditions and report to appropriate personnel.
• Work in compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws, and regulations.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
