About The Position

This role is responsible for maintaining and repairing ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment. The technician will perform routine inspections, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the safe operation of the refrigeration systems. The position requires a willingness to work a swing shift schedule and participate in safety programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in ammonia or Freon refrigeration, boiler operations, and/or compressed air systems preferred.
  • Clear understanding of refrigerant expansion and pressure-temperature relationships.
  • Ability to direct and train operators.
  • Working knowledge of departmental computer systems and PCs.
  • Must be willing and able to serve as a Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Team Member.
  • Must pass CARO and/or CIRO operator certifications, or be willing to obtain certification.
  • Ability to read and use dial gauges, micrometers, and precision measuring instruments for alignment of motors, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Ability to work in environments with occasional exposure to carbon dioxide vapors (up to 10 ppm) and chlorine (less than 20 ppm).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities including reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, rebuild, and adjust ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment.
  • Analyze, calibrate, replace, repair, and rebuild equipment and machinery in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain all required personal tools and demonstrate the ability to safely use hand tools and industrial shop equipment.
  • Supply personal hand tools necessary to operate systems, perform preventive maintenance inspections, and complete repairs.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the Process Safety Management (PSM) Team and maintain respirator fit testing requirements.
  • Perform routine rounds and inspections throughout the shift across the entire ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Safely isolate and pump down any section of refrigeration systems.
  • Perform line opening procedures in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Receive and transfer ammonia within plant systems as qualified.
  • Perform routine maintenance on ammonia compressors and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical controls on refrigeration and ammonia systems.
  • Maintain engine rooms, compressor rooms, and roof areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Work a swing shift schedule as required.
