About The Position

Primarily responsible for maintaining, operating, inspecting, and repairing various types of ammonia refrigeration equipment for a poultry processing plant. Performs preventative and predictive maintenance; periodically tests and inspects to verify equipment is operating within manufacturer’s specifications and tolerances; troubleshoots equipment problems and repairs as needed. Performs all work in compliance with company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • NOCTI HVAC/Refrigeration test Level 1, 2 and 3 certified
  • Pass NOCTI HVAC/Refrigeration test, Level 4 required
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in running, maintaining and repairing ammonia refrigeration equipment
  • Intermediate math and computer skills
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of all functions and components of ammonia refrigeration equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant electrical and general mechanical systems
  • Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hours
  • Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character
  • Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in areas where required.)
  • Stand up to 8 hours.
  • Lift up to 60 lbs.
  • May be exposed to heat (99ºF, 37ºC) and cold (45ºF, 4ºC)
  • Exposure to wet and dusty environment.
  • Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling.
  • Roll and push buggies (~1,000 lbs.)
  • Work around raw, live animal odors

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage the daily operations of the ammonia refrigeration compressor room; follow blueprints and diagrams to diagnose complex problems and repair units
  • Take and record required system readings, understand the implications of variances; report to appropriate personnel/leader
  • Identify root cause of complex mechanical system issues and repair or notify appropriate personnel if unable to complete
  • Perform routine predictive and preventative maintenance on equipment as needed and/or scheduled
  • Identify unsafe conditions; corrects or reports to appropriate personnel if unable to correct on own
  • Direct the work of others and is a “go-to” for questions and concerns in relation to task performance in the absence of supervisor or superintendent at their direction
  • Verify blueprint and operating manuals and procedures are current as needed
  • Train entry level personnel
  • Work in compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations
  • All other duties as assigned
