About The Position
Primarily responsible for maintaining, operating, inspecting, and repairing various types of ammonia refrigeration equipment for a poultry processing plant. Performs preventative and predictive maintenance; periodically tests and inspects to verify equipment is operating within manufacturer’s specifications and tolerances; troubleshoots equipment problems and repairs as needed. Performs all work in compliance with company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Pass NOCTI HVAC/Refrigeration test, Level 2 required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in running, maintaining and repairing ammonia refrigeration equipment
- Intermediate math and computer skills
- Knowledge and understanding of all functions and components of ammonia refrigeration equipment
- Knowledge of electrical and general mechanical systems
- Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended shift hours
- Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character
- Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in areas where required.
- Stand up to 8 hours
- Lift up to 60 lbs
- May be exposed to heat (99ºF, 37ºC) and cold (45ºF, 4ºC)
- Exposure to wet and dusty environment
- Frequently reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling
- Roll and push buggies (~1,000 lbs.)
- Work around raw, live animal odors

Responsibilities
- Perform the operations in the ammonia refrigeration compressor room, follow blueprints and diagrams to diagnose and repair units
- Take and record required system readings; understand the implications of variances and report to appropriate personnel/leader
- Perform maintenance on compressors as needed and/or scheduled
- Identify unsafe conditions; correct or report to appropriate personnel if unable to correct on own
- Assist in creating and maintaining a file of blueprints and operating manuals and procedures
- Work in compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations
- All other duties as assigned
