About The Position

This role directly supervises 2-3 staff members focused exclusively on maintaining an ammonia refrigeration system. The Refrigeration Supervisor ensures that all refrigeration activities and operations are conducted promptly and fluidly and that all facility systems are appropriately functioning. The role requires adherence to all standard operating procedures of the plant. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to work at Triumph Foods.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
  • 2 – 3 years of experience in a meat processing facility or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and skills in the technologies of Anhydrous Ammonia, electrical systems, electronic systems, microprocessors, mechanical systems (e.g., production/process refrigeration boilers, HVAC hydraulics, and pneumatics), and computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Previous supervisor experience.
  • Basic PC skills, including expertise with MS Office and Outlook.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills – speaks and writes clearly and persuasively in positive and negative situations. Listens for understanding.

  • Ability to use computers and all standard programs the industry uses, learn, and effectively use any other programs that are or will be made available.
  • Must be capable and willing to work any shift and be on 24-hour emergency calls.
  • Must obtain Ammonia OP1/OP2/OP3 (TECH 1)/PSM certifications and maintain them, renewed every three (3) years.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of food plant production and processing equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety knowledge of PSM & OSHA safety regulations, EPA regulations, USDA, and sanitation standards.
  • CIRO- Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator preferred and renewed yearly after having 2 years of machine room experience, requires 25 CEU every three (3) years.
  • CRES – Certified Refrigeration Energy Specialist or ability to obtain.
  • It may be required to be clean-shaven if trained and required to use a respirator.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting yourself and ensuring subordinates conduct themselves consistent with Triumph Foods company mission, values, code of ethics policies, and other standards of conduct.
  • Leading a team of subordinates and delegating work functions to them.
  • Planning and organizing work shifts for the timely completion of all engine room activities.
  • Inspecting all refrigeration processes and evaluating the work of subordinates.
  • Maintaining proper shift cycles for refrigeration activities.
  • Coordinating all work processes with other internal departments of the organization.
  • Contacting and coordinating external service agencies as appropriate to schedule refrigeration repair work and ensure timely and effective work order completion.
  • Supervising, training, and developing subordinates in technical maintenance activities, troubleshooting, and repairing ammonia refrigeration equipment, including vessels, evaporators, condensers, pumps, motors, compressors, valves, and other refrigeration equipment.
  • Conferring with operators, observing, testing, and evaluating the operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose the cause of malfunctions.
  • Disassembling machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
  • Ensuring all ammonia safety equipment is up to date.
  • Performing inspections and preventative maintenance as required by PSM schedules.
  • Maintaining, repairing, and examining refrigeration systems.
  • Complying with Safety Programs to ensure the protection of employees and property.
  • Ensuring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to bump caps, safety glasses/goggles, face shields, earplugs, hair and beard nets, gloves, and safety shoes or rubber boots.
  • Complying with all plant policies and the Occupational Safety and Health Rules (OSHA) while conducting refrigeration processes.
  • Complying with the EPA's Risk Management Program Regulation of a hazardous chemical facility (Process Safety Management, System Management, Hazard Assessment, Emergency Response program, Risk Management Plans, Hazard Analysis, and Offsite Consequence strategies).
