About The Position

The Refrigeration Mechanic will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining various industrial systems including ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, and steam. This role involves ensuring the efficient and safe operation of these systems through regular monitoring, testing, and maintenance tasks. The mechanic will also be involved in troubleshooting, repairs, and supporting other facility equipment. A key aspect of this position is participation in the Hazmat Emergency Response Team, requiring the ability to wear and work in specialized protective equipment and adhere to strict safety protocols, including Process Safety Management (PSM) procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration and industrial utility systems
  • Ability to monitor and interpret system performance and control parameters
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Understanding of chemical treatment processes for water and boilers
  • Strong safety awareness, especially in hazardous environments
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and regulatory requirements (PSM)
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience operating and maintaining industrial refrigeration systems (ammonia preferred)
  • Experience with boilers, air compressors, and facility utility systems
  • Familiarity with Hazmat response procedures and safety protocols
  • Ability to wear and work in specialized protective equipment as required
  • Technical training or certifications related to industrial maintenance or refrigeration systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain compressed air systems
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain steam systems
  • Monitor control system parameters and perform scheduled equipment rounds
  • Test and adjust chemical levels for condenser water treatment and boilers
  • Perform system startups and shutdowns
  • Conduct maintenance tasks such as filter changes, oil separator changes, and oil changes
  • Troubleshoot system issues, perform repairs, and assist contractors as needed
  • Maintain and support boilers, HVAC equipment, scrubbers, chillers, heaters, pumps, blowers, steam traps, and valves
  • Serve as a member of the Hazmat Emergency Response Team
  • Wear required PPE including respirator, SCBA, and/or Level A suit when necessary
  • Participate in and follow all Process Safety Management (PSM) program procedures
