The Refrigeration Mechanic I performs installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including cooling equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and environmental rooms. Completes preventive maintenance, manages work orders, and supports reliable operation of critical campus facilities. This role provides skilled work in the installation, replacement, adjustment, repair, and routine cleaning necessary to maintain functionally efficient operation of refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The position is designated as essential and requires personnel to report to work during emergencies. The mechanic will independently and under supervision perform installation, repair, maintenance, and service of various refrigeration equipment and related components. They will also study and interpret blueprints, attend meetings, and assist with reviewing refrigeration drawings. Communication with customers and completion of work orders using a computerized maintenance manager system (CMMS) via PC and smartphone applications are required. The mechanic must carry a university communication device and respond to calls during normal business hours.
