The Refrigeration Designer will evaluate entire commercial (supermarket) refrigeration systems, primarily parallel compression “racks”, for condition, capacity, and efficiency given proposed remodel-related changes to the system. This role involves surveying existing systems, collecting pertinent information, performing load calculations, arranging loads on compressor suction groups, calculating compressor & condenser capacity, and selecting new equipment when needed. The designer will also size related piping and pressure regulating valves, understand and specify alternate system types (e.g., condensing units, distributed systems, secondary pumped systems), and be willing to learn about new system types such as CO2 Transcritical systems. Designs must comply with all applicable local and state codes, as well as owner specifications and design guidelines. The position also requires proactive coordination between trades for design integration and collaboration, reviewing and correcting work, and leading draftsmen or other support staff for effective project execution.
