Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Maintenance and Operations, the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Tech supports the safe and effective functioning of healthcare facilities. The role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems in accordance with codes, standards, and policies. The incumbent ensures system reliability, uses and modifies programming of the building automation system (BAS), conducts preventive maintenance, and provides emergency response to minimize downtime in critical care environments. Travel between NSH sites may be required.

Requirements

  • Refrigeration Air Conditioning Journeyperson Red Seal required.
  • One year post journeyperson experience is required.
  • Ability to work in an environment with conflicting priorities, demanding deadlines, and time pressures.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety codes required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and observation of safe work practices is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers (e.g. Microsoft Office) required.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working with a safety permit system.
  • Demonstrated communication and problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to carry out physically demanding tasks, work in all weather conditions, work from heights and in enclosed spaces as necessary, and be able to carry out duties safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nova Scotia driver's license and have access to reliable transportation as required.
