About The Position

The Referral Specialist manages and facilitates patient referrals, authorizations, and scheduling for appointments, tests, and procedures at designated locations. The role serves as a liaison between patients, providers, and medical support staff to ensure timely coordination of care. This includes verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining prior authorizations, and entering demographic and insurance information into clinic and hospital systems. The Referral Specialist also handles phone communications, supports referral management operations, and follows the mission, vision, values, and performance expectations of MercyOne Medical Group.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in a healthcare setting.

Nice To Haves

• Prior medical office experience.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
• Work directly with patients, families, insurance representatives, physicians, and vendors to facilitate the referral process.
• Coordinate, process, and track patient referrals, authorizations, and scheduling accurately and with attention to detail.
• Verify insurance coverage, obtain prior authorizations, and communicate approval or denial to patients.
• Schedule patient appointments with appropriate specialists and providers and communicate appointment details in a timely manner.
