The Referral Specialist will obtain insurance authorization from the patient’s insurance company via phone, fax, or online. This role coordinates patient referrals to specialists as requested by providers, enters and maintains accurate data in the referral database, and verifies all pertinent documentation. The specialist will assemble information concerning the patient's clinical background and referral needs, provide appropriate clinical information to the specialist per referral guidelines, and communicate appointment information to the patient. This position requires adaptability, adherence to corporate communications, punctuality, and a willingness to assist other staff. The Referral Specialist must understand and adhere to departmental policies, complete required training, and exemplify a strong adherence to the professional code of conduct. A professional and positive attitude, supportive behavior towards patients and colleagues, and compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations are essential. The role involves performing duties as part of the practice care team, participating in team huddles and meetings, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Job functions must align with office policies, procedures, and patient-centered medical home standards. Other duties as required or requested.
