About The Position

The Referral Specialist supports the coordination and continuity of patient care at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute by managing referral and insurance authorization processes for new patients, diagnostic testing, and hospital admissions. The role also completes patient registration, verifies financial and insurance information, and updates billing systems to help ensure seamless service delivery. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, at the Windermere location.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
One year of experience in retail, customer service, or health care.

Responsibilities

Completes registration and obtains insurance authorization for new patients, diagnostic testing, and hospital admissions.
Verifies patients’ financial and insurance information.
Updates patient insurance information in billing systems as needed.
Initiates the referral and authorization process for all services and visits.
Works with nursing and medical staff to facilitate patient care.
Communicates with the scheduling department to verify that insurance requirements have been satisfied for upcoming appointments.
Coordinates with other departments as needed to facilitate patient visits.
Provides patients with referral information for other physicians and facilities.
Communicates with internal and external customers, including primary care providers, patients, and clinical departments, to obtain required authorizations.
Maintains reasonably regular and punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable standards.
Complies with Orlando Health policies and procedures.
