About The Position

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada, is seeking applicants for a full-time, 12-month/year-round, tenure-track Reference and Instruction Librarian. Under the direction of Associate Dean of Learning Commons, the reference librarian oversees the daily functions of the library and brings leadership and innovation to the Learning Commons. Through close collaboration with academic faculty, the reference librarian is responsible for identifying curriculum needs and opportunities and then developing, advertising, and executing targeted support to ensure student success. The reference librarian provides a full-range of reference, library instruction, collection, and subject-area development to student, faculty, and public users.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or related field from an American Library Association accredited institution
  • One year public or academic library experience
  • Experience providing library instruction or teaching experience at the college level
  • Experience creating instructional material, including web-based guides, videos, and tutorials
  • Experience applying research methods to support reference services
  • Evidence of tailoring services and/or content to meet user needs
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend availability

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of specialized collections, such as genealogical records
  • STEM and Allied Health field knowledge
  • Experience facilitating OER projects and/or engagement with OER community
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Provide traditional and online reference services to the TMCC community.
  • Conduct Information Literacy instruction sessions.
  • Collaborate in the scheduling and assessment of library instruction sessions.
  • Develop/modify instructional materials.
  • Create and update library materials across a variety of platforms.
  • Collaborate with instructors to create and update research assignments.
  • Promote library services to the campus community.
  • Manage the public catalog interface as needed.
  • Serve as a collection development liaison in assigned areas.
  • Serve on library and college committees and working groups.
  • Assist faculty in integrating information resources into curriculum.
  • Provide customized support for students and faculty.
  • Maintain sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
