About The Position

Idaho State University is seeking a Reference and Instruction Librarian/Assistant Professor for its Idaho Falls campus. This is an on-campus position, not eligible for remote work. The role involves assisting and instructing patrons through in-person and online reference services, teaching library workshops and information literacy courses, and participating in collection development. Requirements

  • Master’s of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Demonstrated interest in developing knowledge of academic digital resources
  • Demonstrated ability to use MS Office suite, and Google Drive/Suite
  • Demonstrated interest in working in a team environment within a library committed to quality service
  • Valid U.S. work authorization

Responsibilities

  • Provides reference service in-person and via phone, chat, and email.
  • Assists faculty, students, staff and other users on a one-on-one basis by answering specific information requests, offering research assistance, and guiding users in the effective use of information resources provided by the Library.
  • Serves as a bibliographer to designated academic departments and oversees the selection of materials in assigned subject areas.
  • Assists in collection development and evaluation; monitors pertinent portions of the acquisitions budget; works to develop and maintain good relations with faculty members.
  • Provides individual, classroom, and group instruction in library services and procedures, search strategies, and the use of information resources.
  • Teaches the 3 credit Information Literacy course.
  • Participates as a member of the reference team in planning, policy formulation, identifying and recommending new information resources and services, training other library personnel, interacting with patrons and the university community in a professional manner, fostering a supportive reference climate, and acting in other ways to strengthen reference and library services.
  • Manages the ISU-Idaho Falls Library facility, including hiring and training student employees, managing the physical collection, and providing instruction and reference to ISU-Idaho Falls students and faculty.
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned by supervisor and the Library Dean.
  • Participates in professional activities, including university and library committees and task forces, and attends professional meetings.
