About The Position

The Elon University School of Law Library in Greensboro, NC, aims to meet the educational and research needs of its community, including students, staff, faculty, and adjuncts. It also serves Elon Law alumni, practicing attorneys, and the general public. This position is part of a seven-person library staff and focuses on supervising the Access Services department and providing reference and legal research instruction.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library/Information Science and a Juris Doctor law degree are required.
  • All applicants must have a JD degree.
  • JD holders without an MLIS will be considered if they have library experience or qualifications.
  • Combinations of education and work experience will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Desired 2+ years of professional library experience, particularly with some supervision experience.
  • New graduates are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Access Services department, including planning, organizing, and directing activities such as opening/closing the library, setting library hours, managing circulation, course reserves, inter-library loans, and stack maintenance.
  • Manages a full-time Circulation Paraprofessional and hires, supervises, trains, and schedules student workers.
  • Determines circulation and reference schedules, assigns desk shifts (in-person and virtual), and maintains shift calendars.
  • Collects and maintains statistics for both service points.
  • Manages all social media accounts for the library.
  • Serves on the library's Student Engagement Committee to support student experience initiatives.
  • Co-teaches (and occasionally individually teaches) in the library instructional program, collaborating with other librarians to create and update instructional materials.
  • Serves as reference liaisons to faculty.
  • Provides general reference and research assistance to Elon Law students and faculty.
  • Staffs reference desk services and virtual/chat reference.
  • Creates and updates legal reference materials.
  • Attends reference meetings and collaborates on reference projects.
  • Updates reference documentation.
  • Creates passwords for public computer use and troubleshoots technology issues.
  • Provides limited reference guidance to public patrons.
  • Participates in the library faculty liaison program, acting as the primary contact for assigned law school faculty and adjuncts.
  • Provides in-depth research assistance to faculty members and trains faculty Research Assistants.
  • Creates subject matter bibliographies and updates LibGuides.
  • Provides credentials and instruction for library database usage.
  • Participates in assigned and voluntary library committees, including the Collections & Acquisitions Committee and the Student Engagement Committee.
  • Contributes to policy management and development.
  • Builds connections and participates in activities that foster an engaged campus environment.
  • Engages in professional development to support enriching diversity, equity, and inclusion.
