About The Position

The Recycling Team Lead I is a forklift-certified team member responsible for overseeing the day-to-day recycling operations and supporting a team of Recycling TAs. This position ensures that recyclable materials are collected, processed, and staged efficiently while upholding safety, housekeeping, and operational standards. In addition to performing hands-on recycling duties, the Team Lead assigns tasks, monitors team performance, and communicates regularly with leadership to address operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED (preferred)
  • Valid Forklift Certification (required)
  • Prior Team Lead experience (preferred) or 2-3 years of experience in similar role
  • Ability to delegate tasks, guide others, and promote team accountability
  • Effective communicator with basic documentation and reporting skills
  • Ability to lead by example and maintain a positive, productive work environment

Responsibilities

  • Operate a forklift to move, stage, and load bales of recycled materials such as plastic, cardboard, and filter paper.
  • Oversee proper disposal of production waste including cup bins, trash, straps, and general recyclables.
  • Operate recycling equipment such as balers and compactors, and ensure team members are following all safety and operational protocols.
  • Perform hands-on recycling duties as needed to maintain workflow and cover for team members when short-staffed.
  • Assign daily recycling tasks to team members and monitor progress throughout the shift.
  • Provide on-the-job guidance, training, and support to Recycling TAs, particularly new or underperforming employees.
  • Maintain shift coverage, ensuring all areas of the plant are being serviced in a timely and organized manner.
  • Ensure employees are adhering to proper PPE, equipment use, and housekeeping standards.
  • Communicate with management and shipping vendors regarding trailer pickups and drop-offs for recycled materials.
  • Ensure trailer loading is completed safely, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Track team progress using basic checklists or logs, and report performance or equipment issues to the Recycling Supervisor.
  • Participate in safety meetings, special projects, or cross-functional support when requested.
