About The Position

Recycling Specialist II positions coordinate the development and implementation of difficult and complex waste reduction and recycling projects; perform studies and research of municipal recycling waste reduction and diversion projects; provide technical assistance, education and outreach; plan, develop, and implement recycling waste reduction and diversion projects; conduct grant fund research and prepare draft applications; coordinate private and public sector recycling, waste reduction, and diversion projects; conduct waste audits; make informational presentations to business and community groups; prepare reports; and perform other duties as assigned. NOTE: Eligible benefited employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter).
  • Two years of full-time professional-level experience planning, developing, administering, and/or implementing public or private recycling programs, waste reduction and diversion programs, and/or non-burn resource recovery programs.
  • A valid California Class C Driver's License is required at the time of hire.
  • Proof of degree/transcripts, if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
  • For City of San Diego employees, proof of Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA), if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a closely related field may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of six months of the required experience.
