About The Position

Collects, sorts, processes, and loads recyclables and assists the public with the proper disposal and recycling of various materials. The Recycling Operator ISWR - Jackson, Wyoming is seeking new talent. This role involves collecting, sorting, processing, and loading recyclable materials, as well as assisting the public with the disposal and recycling of various items like electronic waste, batteries, and materials for document destruction. The position also includes maintaining the cleanliness of the Recycling Center grounds and building, operating various types of machinery, potentially serving as a Scale Operator, and providing customer service support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Up to 1 year of experience in a recycling center that includes customer service, or two years of experience operating light equipment.
  • Must possess a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Forklift OSHA certification, or the ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of recycling center operations; recyclable commodities for sorting and processing.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of light equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
  • Skills in operating light equipment including but not limited to forklift, skid steer, and trailer.
  • Skills in providing quality customer service.
  • Skills in applying basic mathematics.
  • Skills in operating a personal computer utilizing standard software such as Microsoft Office and some specialized software; functioning standard office equipment.
  • Familiarity with contractors and proper disposal methods.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, sorts, processes, and loads recyclable materials; prepares and loads processed recyclable commodities for shipment.
  • Assist the public with unloading, disposal, and recycling of electronic waste, batteries, materials for document destruction, and aluminum cans.
  • Clears litter and debris from Recycling Center grounds and building; identifies and reports building maintenance and repair.
  • Operates various types of machinery, including but not limited to pick-up truck and trailer, forklift, and skid steer.
  • May operate as Scale Operator as requested; weighs all inbound and outbound vehicles; collects required fees and signatures; examines all loads and screens for special fee items and banned items; directs traffic to proper dumping area.
  • May provide Customer Service support, including answering phone calls; greeting walk in customers; responding to various inquiries about programs and collecting payments.
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
