About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Recycling Supervisor, the Recycle Labor Driver is responsible for supporting the efficient and safe operation of the Recycling Center through a combination of equipment operation, material handling, customer service, and facility maintenance. This position plays a vital role in promoting environmental sustainability by ensuring proper processing, sorting, and disposal of recyclable materials. The Recycle Labor Driver also provides seasonal support to the Highway Department during peak demand periods, particularly in winter.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Post-secondary education in mechanical or closely related field of education required
  • Experience operating truck, forklift, skid-steer, and front-end loader
  • Possess or obtain Forklift Safety Certification
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License
  • Valid CDL Wisconsin License Class B minimum, Class A preferred

Responsibilities

  • Safe operation of various equipment including lift truck, forklift, skid-steer, and front-end loader
  • Maintains the mechanical equipment utilized in the operation of the Recycling Center, including such items as conveyors, balers, etc.
  • Drives truck for purposes of transporting and collection/drop off of recycling boxes and materials as needed
  • Serves as back up for Highway Heavy Equipment Operations during peak seasonal demand (primarily winter weather events) as needed, which may include mechanical support and/or operation of heavy equipment
  • Snow removal and grounds keeping
  • Performs various activities associated with the processing of recycling materials, including both manual labor and safe operation of mechanical equipment
  • Physically loads, unloads, manipulates and manages a variety of materials, assists Foreman in ensuring the proper sorting and handling of diverted materials
  • Assists with sorting and running the recycling sort-lines
  • Assists customers with recycling needs, including receiving and unloading contributions and provision of information regarding proper techniques for disposing recyclable commodities
  • The maintenance of neat, clean, orderly and safe equipment and collection locations and facilities consistent with Recycling Center and County policies and procedures and State and Federal safety requirements
  • Strictly adheres to safety procedures and policies
  • Maintains required logs documenting materials and/or weights
  • Operates and balances cash register and performs other related administrative duties such as using a computer and emailing as needed
