About The Position

The Recycling and Program Associate supports the programs, operations, and community initiatives of Keep Douglasville Beautiful (KDB), with a main emphasis on recycling, environmental education, beautification, community engagement, and special events. The position provides operational support at the Douglasville Recycling Center and assists with the planning, implementation, and coordination of KDB programs and activities. The position also performs administrative duties related to program coordination, recordkeeping, data collection, communications, scheduling, reporting, and general departmental operations. The Coordinator's work schedule and primary work location may vary based on seasonal programming, Recycling Center operations, Farmers Market activities, special events, and departmental needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires a valid Georgia Driver's License.
  • Must be available to work a variable schedule based on seasonal programming and departmental operational needs.
  • Saturday availability is an essential requirement of the position.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, recycling practices, environmental programs, beautification initiatives, and community education.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, proper handling and sorting of recyclable materials.
  • Ability to provide professional and courteous customer service to the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, volunteers, vendors, community members, and the general public.
  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments, programs, events, and operational responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and collect program and operational data.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, computers, and applicable software.
  • Ability to use hand tools, cleaning equipment, and other equipment associated with Recycling Center and program operations.
  • Ability to work effectively in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to interact professionally with members of the public and respond appropriately to questions, concerns, and operational issues.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays, evenings, weekends, and special events as required.
  • Ability to perform routine and repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and effective working relationships with City employees, community organizations, volunteers, vendors, and the general public.

  • Previous experience in environmental programs, recycling, social media, community engagement, public service, education, event coordination, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides regular staffing and operational support at the Douglasville Recycling Center for a minimum of three (3) workdays per week, with the specific schedule determined by seasonal programming, operational needs, and departmental priorities.
  • Assists Recycling Center visitors by providing information regarding accepted materials, proper recycling practices, and available recycling services.
  • Monitors the Recycling Center to help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming environment for visitors.
  • Assists with tracking visitor participation, program records, volunteer information, recycling activity and data, material quantities, and other documentation/operational data as assigned.
  • Helps identify and address contamination, improper material disposal, and other operational concerns at the Recycling Center.
  • Assists with opening, closing, setup, cleanup, and general daily operations of the Recycling Center.
  • Supports recycling education and outreach efforts, including educational activities, presentations, informational materials, and community engagement.
  • Coordinates and/or assists with assigned KDB programs, including Adopt-A-Road, Adopt-A-Plot, recycling education, community cleanups, Farmers Market programming, and other environmental and beautification initiatives.
  • Assists with the planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of KDB events, programs, and community activities.
  • During Farmers Market season, will assist with market operations, programming, vendors, volunteers, and community engagement as assigned.
  • Assists with community outreach, public education, social media, promotional activities, and other communications related to KDB programs.
  • Assists with volunteer recruitment, coordination, communication, and recognition.
  • Assists with the development and distribution of educational and promotional materials.
  • Assists with grant-funded programs, including implementation, documentation, data collection, and reporting as assigned.
  • Maintains KDB program supplies, equipment, materials, and work areas in an organized and serviceable condition.
  • Maintains tools, vehicles, equipment, and other departmental property in safe working condition.
  • Communicates operational concerns, program updates, visitor concerns, and other relevant information.
  • Must be available and willing to work Saturdays as part of the regular work schedule. Saturday assignments may include Recycling Center operations, special events, community programs, cleanups, or other departmental activities.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or special events as operational needs dictate.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
