About The Position

As a Recreationist, you will plan, organize and conduct group and individual programs for the residents, while also following guidelines regarding referrals or instructions signed by the Medical Director and/or professional therapists. Your work may also involve liaising with outside agencies/other recreationists, professional organizations to promote growth of the role. Attention to detail is imperative, as you will be recording and reporting resident progress, establishing program priorities, scheduling, and program evaluations.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.
  • Ability to handle physical task demands.
  • Good working knowledge of Peterson-Gunn theory of Activation/Recreation.
  • 1 to 3 years experience in a geriatric’s environment or equivalent of qualifications and experience.
  • Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to the County of Elgin.
  • Satisfactory 2-step Tuberculosis (TB) screening documentation.
