The Recreation Therapist develops and administers therapeutic groups that enhance the patients' physical, cognitive, social, psychological and emotional well being. · Provides recreation therapy services to mental health clients. Performs additional assignments for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Therapeutic Recreation required.
  • Active certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation required.
  • Minimum of 18 months of acute care or inpatient hospital experience.
  • Must be able to provide therapeutic interventions in all delivery arenas.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers therapeutic groups to serve the patient population.
  • Administers patient evaluation and treatment employing recreation therapy procedures and interventions.
  • Develops and implements treatment plan in collaboration with treatment team and patient.
  • Schedules patients, maintains written and verbal communication regarding patient and departmental concerns.
  • Submits accurate billing information.
  • Participates in teaching, including annual in-service to peers.
  • Participates as a clinical instructor for students.
  • Acts as advanced clinician for the department precepting other staff and sharing clinical expertise with other department members.
  • Completes a pre-approved interdisciplinary project for the department.
  • Promotes and contributes to all sanitary and housekeeping policies which are designed to maintain the cleanliness and readiness of all clinic and general staff areas.
  • Participates with department and unit quality improvement activities.
