About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join our clinical team in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will design, implement, and oversee comprehensive recreational programs tailored to individual client needs across residential and community settings. You will work directly with clients to conduct initial assessments, track progress, support treatment goals, and develop discharge plans—fostering holistic growth across cognitive, social, physical, spiritual, and psychosocial domains.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related field required.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) is required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with families, multidisciplinary teams, and community organizations.
Valid driver’s license with a record of responsible driving.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Plan and facilitate individual and group recreational, leisure, and health-oriented activities within residential and community environments.
Support clients through challenging situations (e.g., activity or medication refusal) using positive interaction strategies.
Assist clients with personal financial management and budget strategies to promote independent living skills.
Provide adaptive equipment, compensatory strategies, and modifications tailored to specific clinical focus areas (e.g., mood disorders, addictions, medical issues).
Conduct initial and annual assessments across the five core domains (cognitive, social, physical, spiritual, psychosocial).
Formulate, review, and adjust individualized treatment and discharge plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Monitor progress toward goal achievement, writing monthly/quarterly reports and logging session documentation promptly.
Serve as a liaison between clients, families, employers, and community partners to encourage self-advocacy and reintegration.
Coordinate with direct care and clinical staff to build weekly schedules incorporating treatment plans, ADLs, and behavioral plans.
Provide continuous training and feedback to staff members to ensure consistent implementation of therapeutic recreation strategies.
Manage recreational activity budgets, expense logs, and petty cash in compliance with financial guidelines.
Maintain compliance with professional standards, state regulations, and continuing education requirements.
