About The Position

Join the Jewish Community Center of Louisville as a Recreational Swim Coach and immerse yourself in a vibrant, community-centered aquatics program dedicated to youth development, safety, and excellence. This onsite role provides the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families by fostering confidence, skill development, and a lifelong love of swimming. As a Recreational Swim Coach, you will lead and inspire swimmers ages 4–18 in a fun, inclusive, and energetic team environment. You'll experience the excitement of preparing athletes for Louisville Swim Association (LSA) Division 3 competition during the summer season, while also guiding skill-building clinics and exhibition meets in the fall and spring. This position is perfect for someone passionate about coaching, mentorship, and positive youth experiences. You will play a vital role in creating a supportive team culture grounded in sportsmanship, integrity, and encouragement-finding fulfillment in every practice, meet, and swimmer milestone as you contribute to the mission of the JCC.

Requirements

  • Prior swim team experience (competitive swimming background)
  • Ability to work with a wide age and skill range (ages 4–18)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Energetic, patient, and positive coaching approach
  • Knowledge of competitive swimming rules and techniques
  • Availability for summer season meets and practices, plus fall and spring sessions

Nice To Haves

  • Previous coaching or instructional experience with youth preferred
  • Experience coaching within a recreational or developmental swim program
  • Familiarity with Louisville Swim Association (LSA) or similar league structures

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead age-appropriate swim practices for athletes ages 4–18
  • Teach and refine all four competitive strokes, starts, turns, and finishes
  • Adapt instruction to meet the needs of beginner, intermediate, and advanced swimmers
  • Promote water safety alongside skill progression
  • Provide constructive feedback to support individual improvement
  • Develop seasonal practice plans for summer, fall, and spring sessions
  • Assist in organizing and running clinics and exhibition meets
  • Maintain attendance, group organization, and swimmer evaluations
  • Ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants
  • Prepare swimmers for LSA Division 3 competition during the summer season
  • Attend and actively coach at swim meets
  • Communicate meet expectations and results to swimmers and families
  • Maintain clear, consistent communication with parents, swimmers, and leadership
  • Support team culture through encouragement, accountability, and sportsmanship
  • Collaborate with aquatics staff and leadership to support program goals
  • Enforce all pool safety rules and emergency procedures
  • Ensure proper supervision ratios and risk management during all activities
