About The Position

Chelsea Piers is a premier sports and entertainment complex dedicated to inspiring movement, community, and excellence. Our gymnastics program helps young athletes build confidence, develop skills, and foster a lifelong love of the sport in a positive, high-energy environment. We're looking for a passionate professional to join our team as the Recreational Gymnastics Manager who wants to make a meaningful impact while being part of a collaborative, supportive team. The Recreational Gymnastics Manager is responsible for overseeing and delivering all recreational gymnastics programs, including classes, summer camp, school break camps, and instructional programming. This role is focused on driving enrollment, creating an exceptional guest experience, fostering a positive team culture, and ensuring high-quality programming. The Recreational Gymnastics Manager plays a key role in positioning the gymnastics department as a vibrant contributor to the Chelsea Piers community and delivering an outstanding experience for athletes and their families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of program coordination or supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of gymnastics coaching experience, preferably with preschool and recreational youth programs.
  • Strong knowledge of gymnastics fundamentals, child development, and age-appropriate instructional practices for preschool and youth athletes.
  • Familiarity with USA Gymnastics (USAG) programs and athlete development pathways.
  • KAT and MELPD certifications through USA Gymnastics (or equivalent), or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with the ability to interact professionally with participants, parents, staff, and guests.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and administrative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach gymnasts safely, mentor staff, and provide constructive feedback to support athlete and coach development.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships and contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced indoor environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, support, and promote recreational gymnastics programs, including classes, summer camp, and school break camps.
  • Provide prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable service by responding to guest inquiries and promoting Chelsea Piers programs and services.
  • Process registrations for gymnastics classes and camps.
  • Teach approximately 8 hours of recreational gymnastics classes each week.
  • Oversee and support the training, coaching, and professional development of gymnastics staff.
  • Assist with the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and mentoring of coaches.
  • Complete payroll entry for class and camp coaches.
  • Coordinate class schedules and staff assignments in collaboration with the Director and Team Manager.
  • Execute departmental goals and program objectives while maintaining high-quality programming.
  • Set up equipment for classes and support coaches with daily gym preparation.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and the gym to ensure a safe environment for participants and staff.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and coordinate make-up classes in accordance with department policies.
  • Complete accident and injury reports in accordance with Chelsea Piers policies and procedures.
  • Communicate program policies, procedures, and participant progress with parents and guardians in a professional and timely manner.
  • Contribute to the growth of the gymnastics program by providing input on seasonal programming, camps, marketing initiatives, and budget planning.
  • Attend trainings, clinics, and conferences to stay current on industry trends, coaching techniques, and best practices.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented environment that reflects the Chelsea Piers culture and commitment to exceptional guest experiences.
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional working relationships with employees, participants, parents, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Train, coach, and mentor recreational gymnastics instructors and aides by teaching proper spotting techniques, refining coaching skills, and ensuring participation in required trainings.
  • Coordinate substitute coverage for scheduled classes and provide instructional coverage when necessary to ensure uninterrupted program operations.
