About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to assist in providing recreational activities and events for the leisure and enjoyment of the public. Duties vary depending on assignment. This role involves assisting in conducting recreation programs and activities, organizing arts and crafts, story-telling sessions, social gatherings, and community programs. Specific duties may include scheduling and coordinating private rentals, administering rental contracts, collecting fees, providing administrative support, maintaining facilities and equipment, and recruiting program participants and volunteers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous equivalent experience preferred, e.g., working with children or parks and recreation experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting recreation programs and activities.
  • Assist recreation staff in conducting sports, games, and events.
  • Organize arts and crafts at a recreation facility.
  • Conduct and organize story-telling sessions for children.
  • Organize social gatherings and community programs.
  • Set up for program activities and serve as an on-site assistant.
  • Maintain facilities and equipment.
  • Assist staff by making needed equipment available and monitoring its use.
  • Observe and/or participate in activities.
  • Assist in maintaining order in compliance with established rules.
  • Provide routine information on facility rules and division activities to participants and the public.
  • Schedule and coordinate private rentals of the center.
  • Administer rental contracts and collect fees and payments.
  • Provide administrative duties and support, answering phones, greeting and directing visitors, scheduling appointments, responding to inquiries, and ordering supplies.
  • Maintain equipment, troubleshoot problems, and schedule outside maintenance for equipment malfunctions.
  • Recruit program participants and volunteers.
  • Institute a functional Booster Club to help support all programs at the center.
  • Host annual special events to attract members of the community to become part of the growth of the facility.
