About The Position

The William George Agency for Children's Services is seeking a Recreation Worker to help create and maintain a safe, healthful, and nurturing environment for the children in care at the Agency. This role involves assisting in the planning and execution of therapeutic leisure activities, such as recreation and special events, designed to enrich the children's experiences. The Recreation Worker will also support the treatment team in implementing individual treatment goals and serve as a positive role model for the youth.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent (copy required upon initial hire date)
Background in sports and recreation
Physical (required within one month of initial hire date)
Valid NYS Drivers License (copy required upon initial hire date)
Ability to work with a diverse population presenting a variety of cultural, socioeconomic, developmental and sexual identities.
Ability and willingness to establish and foster healthy and supportive relationships that acknowledge individual identities and encourage personal growth.
Must successfully complete all required background checks: NYS Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR), Multi-State Sex Offender Registry (SOR), NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) fingerprinting, NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL), NYS OMIG Medicaid Exclusion List, Out-of-state child abuse register inquiry of any state in which the person resided within the last five years (if applicable), NYS License Event Notification Service (LENS), Office of Inspector General (OIG).
Must successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI).

Responsibilities

Provide general supervision of children, encouraging participation in campus activity programs.
Teach children appropriate social interaction skills, team skills, sportsmanship, cooperation, and other activity skills.
Monitor resident activity and the environment during recreation periods, ensuring staff supervision.
Mediate and intervene in resident misbehaviors and conduct life space interviews.
Document resident participation and inform cottage staff of behavioral consequences.
Assist other staff members with residents as needed.
Prepare Incident Reports on critical incidents.
Prepare reports for the treatment team on each child.
Help each child achieve treatment goals, particularly those related to recreational activities.
Assist in the role of Child Care Worker for Cottages during staff shortages.
Organize, initiate, and supervise scheduled activities.
Provide alternative activities as needed with approval.
Assign Child Care Workers to supervise activities.
Ensure the safety of equipment and recreation areas.
Document activity results on evaluation forms.
Ensure residents adhere to behavioral standards.
Monitor the condition of the Fieldhouse and report repair needs.
Maintain clean and neat recreation areas.
Ensure all children and staff have left the building and doors are locked at the end of the day.
Transport children to and from off-campus activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
