About The Position

Independently plans and conducts a variety of recreational activities in support of a planned recreation program; and/or assists higher level staff in implementing a planned recreational program; and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or equivalent
One (1) year of general work experience (reading, writing, computation, and communication)
One (1) year of specialized work experience (organizing, conducting and/or instructing recreational or group activities)
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license (Hawai‘i Type 3 or equivalent)
Possession of valid certifications prior to completion of probation: American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety Certificate or equivalent
Possession of valid certifications prior to completion of probation: Either an American Red Cross Community CPR Certificate, certificate of completion of the American Heart Association Health Care Provider course or equivalent
Certificates must be maintained on a current basis thereafter

Responsibilities

Plans for a variety of recreational activities in support of a planned recreation program
Develops plans in consultation with supervisors
Teaches, officiates, and/or instructs a variety of recreational specialties including the cultural, athletic, or leisure activities
Recruits participants and volunteers
Assists in the planning and presentation of county-wide recreational programs
Prepares fields and facilities for recreational activities and sporting events
Prepares groups for competitive activities
Schedules community use of recreational park, playground, and facility
Provides information about programs and events
May assist or provide information on how to reserve recreational facilities
Attends staff meetings
May supervise others
Performs other clerical and custodial tasks
Performs other related duties as required
