About The Position

Island Nursing and Rehab Center, a not-for-profit nursing facility, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Recreation Therapist, CTRS, for a full-time or part-time role in Holtsville, New York. The therapist creates a positive and engaging environment for residents by providing meaningful experiences and activities that support their physical, emotional, and social well-being. The role works closely with the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and interdisciplinary team members and includes transporting residents on community outings and picking up facility supplies using the facility van.

Requirements

• Successfully completed certification as a C.T.R.S., MT-BC Music Therapist, ART-BC Art Therapist, or another certification.
• Thorough knowledge of resident activities and familiarity with residents’ limitations and needs.
• Ability to work closely with the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and show initiative in completing activities, related tasks, and programs.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a long-term care setting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct initial assessments and maintain care plans, progress notes, and other documentation accurately and on time, according to facility policy.
• Develop and implement resident activities, programs, and services, including arts and crafts, music therapy, and outdoor activities.
• Collaborate with the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and interdisciplinary team members to support comprehensive resident care.
• Transport residents on community outings and pick up facility supplies using the facility van.
• Maintain knowledge of governmental, accreditation, professional, and facility standards, regulations, and practices.
• Participate in continuing education and stay current with trends, techniques, and methods in Recreation Therapy.
• Advance the use of TR Services, ensure quality and protection, and promote the rights of people receiving services.
